Have a look to see what our alumni have to say about SeaHorse Sailing School.

“My wife and I had one of the best experiences of our life! Not only is Michael a great teacher but a great person to be around and his demeanor is exemplary. We can’t wait to sail with him again! ”

Bernie Traurig,

“With Mike there are no gimmicks, it’s hands on and pure fun every step of the way. Each day of sailing was followed by an enjoyable team approach in the galley and a relaxing evening on deck. I would highly recommend Seahorse Sailing School!”

Gary Smith

“Great experience with Seahorse Sailing School. It was definitely fun but very much a let’s get down to business class. I arrived to the class with some basic knowledge and experience with sailing but I feel much more confident in my abilities to charter and crew a monohull or catamaran with my family. Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table and I could not stump him with any questions regarding our course or any subject about sailing. My plan is to get some more sailing experience utilizing what I learned in the courses with Seahorse Sailing School and then return for more advanced course work. The location of the Grenadines and Grenada was also a big plus. Virtually untouched by hurricanes and a much more real world experience as it did not feel as touristy as other Caribbean locations. I felt the weather conditions were more varied which provided us with more experience in different conditions rather than only learning to sail in tranquil pristine conditions.”

Johnnie Daley

“I enjoyed the laid back learning atmosphere, the one-way itinerary option, and of course, the scenery!”

Rod Schumacher

“Amazing time with captain Mike. Came in planning with previous knowledge of sailing and was hoping to be certified in 101,103. By the end of the week I had gained so much knowledge about the boat’s systems I was able to also get the 104! We were able to have a lot of fun while sailing and while on anchor. Thank you!”

Ryan Gelston

“I’ve sailed under Capt Mike’s instruction twice now taking ASA 101, 103, 104 a week last year then returning this year to take ASA 105 and 106. Capt Mike is knowledgeable, experienced and friendly. He does a great job balancing the instruction of sailing skills with having fun while ensuring all maintain a focus on crew safety. If you want to get the most from these courses, book study and practice testing pre-trip is mandatory. Each day on the water is productive and filled with practical work (sailing skills, drills, chart work). I had some prior sailing experience as a young man but the training I received at Seahorse Sailing School has given me the knowledge, confidence and tangible skills to charter on my own.

A few other thoughts… Seahorse Sailing School is well located. We found Grenada is easier to get to from the U.S. than some other Caribbean locations due to direct flights from Miami. We stayed at their sailing base, True Blue Bay Resort, before and after the trip. True Blue is close to the airport, has comfortable rooms and a good restaurant. Lesley in the Seahorse office is super helpful. Class scheduling and payment was a breeze and she arranged for airport pick up and secured our True Blue room reservations.

The only knock I could find with Capt Mike is that his morning coffee is a little on the weak side. But he is a Brit… they do much better with tea!”

Jim Daughters

“I’m not one for giving reviews much, but just wanted to add to the growing list of great reviews here. Captain Mike was an outstanding instructor. His attention to detail, safety, and the care of the entire crew made the entire trip both fulfilling and great fun! I’m sure we tested his patience a few times, but he never let it show.

Captain Mike’s love of sailing, excellent sense of humor, and ability to establish a great atmosphere, both for learning and exploring our surroundings, is a balance that very few instructors achieve (across all fields of study). Would definitely recommend and hope to get the opportunity to take another course from him in the future!”

Robert Murray

“My girlfriend and I had a great week doing the ASA101,103, and 104 sailing adventures/classes. Lesley is really on top of communication and organizing the cruises. . The instructor Mike is very knowledgeable, laid back, level headed, patient, funny, and entertaining. He seems to really care that people have a good time and also learn the required skills. The class was well planned out. We had full days, but also down time. The food was plentiful and well outfitted.. There was lots of chatting and drinks in the cockpit after dinner. Fun times! I’m very happy with Seahorse Sailing. I learned a lot. It’s worth the money.”

Kevin Yager

“My family and I went on a 7 day certification trip (ASA 101-103) with Mike. Both my husband and 14 year old son were certified at the end of the trip and felt very confident in the training they received. Our daughter and I also enjoyed the time on the boat. Mike was a consummate professional, made us all feel safe and was easy to work with. He did all of this while having a great time too!”

Jennifer Gelston

“My husband and I just spent a great week aboard a 39 foot Bavaria Monohull with Mike Dye of Seahorse. We both passed our ASA 101, 103, and 104 tests and we could not have asked for a better sailing school. Mike is a patient and funny instructor and Lesley made booking and provisioning effortless. Now, if we can only get our landlegs back.”

Susan Anderheggen

“Capt. Mike and Lesley made my wife and my week of instruction in Granada amazing. We couldn’t have been more happy with our experience!”
